I love ritual: there's something sacred in purposefully carrying out an act for a spiritual reason. It feels comforting when that ritual is repeated -- it gives you something to look forward to.
I have lots of rituals, and being an early owl (in my case, it's not an oxymoron!) I tend to perform most of mine in the early morning hours. When things are clear, free from distraction, and that fresh morning smell of new beginnings.
One of my favorite rituals is lighting some sage or cedar, clearing the energy of my tarot deck, shuffling the cards and thinking about the week ahead of me. While I shuffle, I set goals, reflect, and invite ease into my week. Then, I pick a card. I hang out with the card for a bit, studying its image, refreshing my memory of its meaning with some words from a tarot book, meditating with it.
This past Monday, this space, my tiny little corner of the internet, was on my mind, full force. I had a long to-do list, my eye set on the goal of launching on Saturday, March 1st. A new month, mercury out of retrograde, stars lining up. I shuffled, day-dreaming about how I could use my skills to create a space where I can help people. Where I can help you.
& then I pulled The Magician Card from the deck, and laughed. It was way too appropriate.
My dear Magician, my mage. He tends to show up for me in times of transitions into sheer awesomeness. He's been watching over me as I dive into the creative process of not only creating this space, but also as I focus more on my artwork. This fellow is modeled after Merlin, a symbol of wisdom, a teacher. He knows where the magic is happening.
Do you see how he's raising one hand up and one hand is pointing down? He's materializing (earth, down) the spiritual and dream realm (up&up). The sky's the limit. He's manifesting desires, turning dreams into reality. He's all about the action, that first step in a journey (he is card numero uno). He can indicate success in a new venture (whoop!) and an intuitive and spiritual personal power. Open to spirit, he utilizes the four elements to work with mind, body, spirit, and heart.
& here I am, at the opening phase of releasing my creative and spiritual self
For me, this card sings, "I am the creator of my own destiny." He stands tall, aware of his own personal power. He is guided by his spirit & intuition. He says, "go forth and create success in all that you do."
Oh, Magician, I am going forth. Here I am, my first step. I am committed to the task.
Another rad piece of information about our Magician: He's associated with Mercury. As a Gemini, Mercury is my ruling planet AND Mercury *just* went out of retrograde today. Which is absolutely fantastic.
Say it with me: I create success in all that I do.
So tell me: which aspect of the Magician appeals to you? Do you see yourself in his traits? Has he been appearing in your own Tarot readings?
